What Is Aker Fassi? How It Is Used as a Lip and Cheek Stain

Aker Fassi is a traditional Moroccan pigment, made from dried poppy petals, from the city of Fez. It has long been used as a natural-looking tint for lips and cheeks, and it also appears in some beldi black soaps.

How Aker Fassi is traditionally used

  • As a lip and cheek stain: a small amount is dabbed on with a fingertip and blended for a soft, rosy colour.
  • In black soap: the pigment is mixed into beldi black soap for a tinted, traditional hammam product.

How to apply it

  1. Start with clean, dry skin.
  2. Pick up a very small amount on a clean fingertip.
  3. Dab onto lips or cheeks and blend outward. Build colour gradually.

Patch test first

As with any new cosmetic, test a small amount on your inner arm and wait 24 hours before using it on your face. Stop using it if irritation occurs. Keep away from the eyes.
